I don't think anyone's performance and prospects have been overthought as much as Akira Lane's. So many people spending so much time speculating on why she does what she does and trying to manage her career from afar. From what I can see she's a a reluctant hardcore performer, which is why today's producers are reluctant to cast her. It just seems that she's most comfortable as a tease and softcore performer. I like Akira -- she keeps herself in superb shape and for a woman her age looks better than most younger performers. She seems to genuinely like her fans. She doesn't badmouth other performers. No drama -- at least open drama. And we've been over (and over and over) the fact she hasn't done taken the standard hardcore route. I've just come to accept that she will probably never fulfill the expectations of a portion of her fan base.

Yes, she most likely has other ventures that probably make her pretty good money. But I dispute than someone will come along and replace her. There are girls that are doing what she does right now. Akira doesn't seem to care what you or I or anyone else thinks. She's been around since 2001 and based on the expansion of her Twitter following, her base has grown in the last few years. I don't pay her the attention I did 4-5 years ago, when she first dipped her toe in the hardcore water with her own releases. I doubt she'll ever been "all in" as a hardcore performer. And because of that, a lot of producers, who don't know her habits and reliability, will be reluctant to cast her.

Based on her behavior, she'll do what she wants. She's slowly putting up downloadable material on her site. She seems to to get roles here and there. But the constant predicting of what will become of her career is kind of futile. She's not paying attention to this little corner of the Net -- unless it's to make sure her material is not misused. If she wants to fuck someone's brains out on camera for money, she will. But it's going to be on her terms. I'll just sit back, check her Twitter feed, and wait to see what happens next.

Good post. You share an interesting perspective to consider.

I generally separate my thoughts of a model/pornstar as a "person" from the "fantasy" aspect. I do not know Akira as a person. I honestly don't really care. Yeah, that is shallow... But I think if guys are honest with themselves, a large part of paying attention to any adult performer is because they are hot and fuckable.

To me, Akira doesn't do it anymore from the "fantasy" perspective. Yes, she's worked hard to stay in great shape. Yes, she seems personable to fans (although the cynical part of me sees that as just another marketing ploy because she needs it). But if I had to choose between an attractive 50 year old Asian woman and a 21 year old Asian woman for my "fantasy," the 21 year old will win over the 50 year old every time. I know, we all have different taste in age/experience/whatever.... I'm just trying to explain that for me, Akira doesn't do it anymore. I never cared much about her hardcore stuff. I LOVED her tease/softcore scenes and those will be permanently burned into my memory and my hard drives. I still am interested enough to check this forum from time to time in case she does post any new softcore stuff. But, even if she did, I know it wouldn't be as compelling as the stuff from 10 years ago.

So, I may be a jerk. Whatever. Just sharing my thoughts on things. I don't begrudge her making as much money as possible from guys out there. That's great and I'd encourage that whole hardheartedly. It just won't be coming from me.

Equally interesting, honest post. A few observations:

- I don't know Akira personally, either, although I've taken the time to learn some of her back story. I place a premium on a performer being decent to her followers. She does that. Not only is it a good thing to do, it's good business. It's good business -- in any business. She knows this. The girls with the longevity know this.
- OK, so she doesn't do it for you anymore. That's fine. There are plenty of performers who don't do it for me, either. And like you, I base it on age. I'll take an attractive older woman over a teen-bopper any day. The adult business is overrun with young girls who'll be gone in six months to a year because they don't know what they're doing or aren't committed to staying. I'm not saying I don't really like some of the younger girls. They just don't do as much for me.
- I'm a hardcore fan. Tease and softcore will never do it for me. I even prefer Akira out of pantyhose because she has great legs (I hate pantyhose, by the way).
- I get the criticism of her hardcore stuff; for some fans, it's too little, too vanilla, too late. I've even been frustrated by it on occasion.
- Are you a jerk? Not really. The people I have problems with are the guys who want to manage her career as if she doesn't already know what she needs to do. This is a grown woman, with a business degree, who's been in the adult business 16 years. She's made choices, for good or ill, based on her own preferences and experiences. If she'd wanted to be a hardcore star, like Mika Tan, she could have, but chose not to. I also have problems with guys who clearly don't like women, who want to see them manhandled. I've detected some of that in criticism directed toward Akira. They dislike the fact that she's something of a dominant personality. I'm not directing that at you, by the way.
- The adult business is not a charity, although these days some fans seem to think they're entitled to get everything for free. Yes, Akira's entitled to make as much money as possible and if she's got something I want, I'll pay for it. If not, I leave it alone. None of these performers, including Akira, owe us anything except an honest performance, one that suits our particular fantasy.
