Any Black Friday / CM gaming deals you scored?

I got the launch edition of 7th Dragon III Code: VFD and Kirby Triple Deluxe for the 3DS. They're games I've wanted for a while but never really went on sale. Plus 7th Dragon was the launch edition which only makes it rarer.

I know the majority of deals are for PS4/XBONE but I'm very happy with with this. Any games you guys scored?

I blindly got Star Wars Battlefield 2, not knowing even what kind of game it was. 9.95 or something. It's pretty at least. Doesn't keep my attention for long, but hey.

Did you mean Star Wars Battlefront II or is there a parody game now?

If you're talking about SWBF2, yeah it doesn't surprise me. That game pretty much killed loot crates and even made gatcha games illegal in some countries.
for $10 and no extra costs it looks like a nice game.

That's the one. What do you mean about loot crates?

I'm surprised you didn't hear about it.

    There's even a Wiki article:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_W...ns_controversy

Basically it's those microtransactions you see in Free-to-play games. Like many games it let you pay extra money for the chance of getting items/characters you wanted. That's nothing new, but EA's initial response on reddit to allegations about making popular characters (Eg Darth Vader) only available by this random game of chance (or by grinding ungodly amounts of time) really ticked off the fanbase and it blew up from there. Unlike DLC you're not guaranteed to get the character you want, and could potentially spend hundreds or thousands of $ without getting it.

This then lead to a huge debate about the lootbox/microtransaction business model and Belgium even ended up banning them. This then lead to many Free to play games that have such microtransactions to be banned as well. You might have seen that topic about the game Whimsy & I play (FF Brave Exvius), but that game is no longer accessible in Belgium because of this.

It's kinda interesting to see how something that had been going on for a while blew up because of literally one bad PR post on reddit.

Yeah, I had no idea. I don't really know anything about those crates and therefore didn't know anything about it. I do know that micro transactions have already ruined game production and user experience. I fucking hate it. I'm happy to pay for a game that is actually DONE. Expansions should be like they were before, an add-on much later in the games life and should merit being an entire game almost on its own. Nickle and dimeing gamers is insane, but people are fucking paying for it so they keep doing it.

Times have changed and its a big cycle of ass. Many gamers are lazy, so they would rather spend real money on fake space cash to unlock shit that should have been unlocked already, or used as a reward for time spent and achievements. Developers add this feature and push it as far as they think they can get away with it because someone is paying for it instead of grinding or trying. Developing games this way cuts back on user experience because you're getting half a fucking game. I despise it, I really do.

Yeah, those "timesaver" packs are kinda ironic in that you buy a game hoping to get a lot of playtime out of it, then pay even more money to shorten that experience.

I'm with you 100% on that. DLC these days are released months or even days after release, meaning they should have been included in the original game and not a paid add-on. Even worse like in Street Fighter v Tekken when they are put on the disc itself and behind a paywall. That's just pure bullshit. There is NO excuse for that; how do you even call it DLC when it's literally in the initial release?

Like that upcoming Smash Bros Ultimate. apparently it was datamined and found to have 30 EXTRA DLC Character slots. Bad enough they literally want you to buy over 70 amiibos, and now it's obvious Ninty is looking to get you to spend even more money for characters that should have come with the game.

    And the controversy goes on...

IGDA chief Jen MacLean calls for self-regulation
    https://www.gamespot.com/articles/vi...paign=homepage

Keep in mind that it's the "gambling" aspect that is so controversial. It's one thing to charge players extra for perks & stuff, but it's a whole new beast when you charge real money just for the chance of getting what you want. That is textbook gambling so I can see how the argument makes sense.

Oh, and 1 more thing that sucks about the game industry today:

    Day one patches
    https://www.gamespot.com/articles/su.../1100-6463532/

It's one thing if players discover a glitch/bug once they start playing, but if you have bugs BEFORE the game launches, then maybe you should have fixed that before release?

It's lazy. That's all there is. People want instant gratification, which, yes, is ironic for a game you want to enjoy over any length of time.

I haven't been on PSN for a while, but they usually have some good deals going. Much better than Xbox Live in my experience.

LOL they were selling new copies of SWBF2 for $10 at the local Gamestop. Ironic since they were selling used copies of the game for $20. It's like they can't even give that game away since no one wants it.
