    Re: Anthony Bourdain Commits Suicide

Just a glimpse of the real person you are bashing.

As the world mourns the death of travel luminary Anthony Bourdain, many feel a palpable friendship with someone they've never met. And what do friends do when they borrow something of yours and lose it? Replace it with something equally wonderful.

Such is the case for the McKinney family in West Virginia who hosted Bourdain for dinner in the Season 11 premiere of Parts Unknown. During filming, Bourdain borrowed Bob McKinnery's old coal miner's lunch box for a trip to an underground coal mine to stay true to their way of life. On the show, Bourdain easily settled in for a feast of family-style Italian cuisine at Bob and his wife Linda's home, and wrapped up shortly thereafter to head out for his next adventure. The lunch pail got lost, as Bourdain would say of his wayfaring lifestyle, in transit.

Many people, of course, wouldn't have thought much of the lost memento. Bourdain, despite a packed schedule and lengthy list of obligations, was not one of those people. Just a day before his death on Friday, June 8th, Bourdain returned to the McKinney family in the most unexpected of ways, as the Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports:

"Bourdain came back into their lives Thursday when a package arrived at the Five Loaves & Two Fishes Food Bank in Kimball. The show’s crew shot a scene there because Bob and Linda operate it. Linda said that she at first assumed that it was a DVD or a DVD set of Bourdain’s show. Bob, who is a mine safety trainer, works nearby, so she took the package to his office and he opened it. Bourdain had not forgotten about the lost lunch bucket. Inside the package was a new lunch cooler," writes Greg Jordan.

In addition to the cooler itself, Bourdain took the time to draw a chef's knife and autograph it: “To Bob, with many thanks, Anthony Bourdain.” Taking on a new significance after the beloved storyteller's untimely passing, the family will keep Bourdain's gift alongside other keepsakes in the family's china cabinet. There, the unused lunchbox will sit, as a reminder that we're all, always, in transit.

I guess dissent is going to be the truest form of patriotism again. It's kind of funny because for the last eight years dissent has been racism.

His decision without thought of the hurt to others. His wife and family. Close and casual associates. Those that were influenced by him. Those that admired him. "My feelings are more important than theirs." You don't call that selfish? Anthony B. achieved the goals that he aimed for professionally and in his activism. What was he missing in his life? Knowing that there was some sort darkness in his life, he sought professional help and ignored it. Death is always tragic but how can such a person be revered?

once again you are being dense Bob. when you have depression it consumes you. You can't rationalize the way you are expecting others to do just because YOU don't have depression. Again, depression isn't the same as being depressed. You can't think of your kids or your money or your fans, you can only think of making the pain stop. Stop seeing it from your point of view and know that there are people wired differently than you, therefore YOU can't fucking understand something beyond your own existence. The guy gave a ton to charity, brought awareness to issues like Laos and others, worked the last 15 years to bring tolerance and understanding to people that most (especially in the US) never understood or had preconceived notions, loved his daughter and his work, so if you stop being a dotard for 3 seconds you'll see that obviously this wasn't a case of the selfish blues. It is mental illness. In February 2016 my brother decided that 18 months clean from heroin meant he could do it again. The relapse dose killed him on the spot. He knew the risks and knew if he died my mom would find his body and it would destroy her, which it has done. He wasn't thinking of those things, or his new job he had worked so hard to get and was starting in 2 weeks and taking him to India and China. He thought of none of it even though he was a very thoughtful person who would never do something so horrible if he were capable of thinking of that stuff.

Stop seeing the world only from your perspective. That was one of the beautiful things that Bourdain tried to show his viewers. There are many ways of life other than your own.

Now I want to understand, myself....what was it like to feel what he felt. Did he feel paralyzed? Compelled? Like not in control of himself and his thoughts? I think it is something we need to get to the root of if we are to save people from doing what he did.

Almost as apt as you comparing this shithead's suicide to a more personal connection with say, someone's father or stepfather? What's up your twat lately? I haven't attacked anyone personally....yet.

    Re: Anthony Bourdain Commits Suicide

So you opponents to my views are telling me that you see things through his eyes? Tell me that any of you are on the verge of suicide and I will do what I can to help you stay alive another day (alright, maybe another 15 minutes, still). I'm just a person and there are other persons that can get you through another day. You have more persons than me and Anthony B. probably have had more persons than you.

And what are these dark demons that transpose so much as to justify suicide. I don't see them, do any of you? Tell us about them so that we can avoid suicide. That thing, those things. The Boogey Man is not real. Space aliens and Illuminati and religion is not real. What makes those reasons to make people that have any closeness to someone real and justifiable to have them suffer as you?

I have never been associated (with my knowledge) with anyone that had committed suicide. If it ever happens, I would resent them till my death. How about any of you? A person that you have a bond with or have some sort of closeness. You want to keep these people in your life and hope to see them another day. Nothing of your fault to say otherwise. Memories of some sort of shared good for even a brief moment. When they decide to end their life, they are saying fuck you to having another moment with you. They have no desire to share one more memory with you. No, better yet, they decided to rob you of future good times and memories.

As of my post, I am watching Anthony B. eating a variety of seafood in Portugal. How demanding of his time.

I'll swap my life with his. Who kills himself sooner? You lay a wreath, the rest of us will piss on his grave.

well bob that 44 minute episode probably took 2 weeks of 16 hour days to film staying in a hotel away from home might not be digging ditches but its exhausting and lonely.

And yes Bob, I do know 3 people who have committed suicide. You are being ignorant. If it were as simple as you claim it wouldn't be happening. I can't argue with ignorant. I'm sorry, I gave it my best but you refuse to comprehend that mental illness is something beyond rational as you claim.

Very true that I am ignorant having never personally known someone that committed suicide. You know 3.

With your experience, how many have come to you with suicidal thoughts and didn't do such an act? Any? If so the case, how did you get them through their crises?
