Ready or Not
pretty crazy lol
This is NOT a movie about the beloved PBS TV host Fred Rogers. It is not a biopic of one of the most influential people in educational TV history. And I found that a bit disappointing...until I watched it through. This is the story of the relationship between Rogers(supremely well-portrayed by Tom Hanks) and journalist Lloyd Vogel (another great performance, this time from Matthew Rhys). It's the story of how one man, at the end of his spectacular career, helps the soul of another man at the beginning of his family life. Vogel is an expose writer working on an unexpected mission for Esquire...to interview Mr. Rogers. He does so reluctantly, but as a new father coming to grips with his hatred for his own dad, he comes to find out that golden words can come from old sources. Other films have used similar true-story-themes, but this one makes us all relate in a way only forgotten feelings of childhood could mend. Give it up for Hanks. Not so much because of his performance, but because of his willingness to step out of the way and let the whole story be told. A-

The Irishman (2019)
Good but not great. I'm a big Scorsese fan, but sadly this one just doesn't live up to the hype. Not even close.
For starters, editing should've cut this film down from 3.5 hours to a more manageable 2 or 2.5. And there's quite a bit that should've been cut.
The CGI versions of Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesce are quite distracting at times. But it was nice seeing them all in one place for almost certainly the last time. In that regard, it's much more of a nostalgia piece than anything else. IMHO, Pesce's performance as a cool, understated mobster was my favorite of the three. DeNiro was much too stiff and almost emotionless. And it seemed that Pacino was playing a hodge podge of Pacino characters more than he was playing Hoffa. Beyond that, the film lacks those signature Scorsese moments that I think we've all come to expect. The plot is also a bit of a mess.
It's probably unfair to compare, Goodfellas and Casino are FAR, FAR better Scorsese gangster films.
I was expecting quite a bit more given the director and the stellar cast. Final grade: C+
Thanks for the review, legman! I was going to watch it over the weekend - until I saw the 3.5 hour run-time; WTF? That's an entire night, or afternoon! I'll pass.
Terminator Dark Fate, probably the best film I've watched this year
Halloween: Resurrection - some really hot babes in this movie. Bianca Kajlich, the red-hair babe and Tyra Banks, when she was in much better form than she is now.![]()
The Happening
I re-watched this about a week ago. Still a masterpiece that's held-up well over time.
And Cybill Shepherd looked absolutely gorgeous
