....and I couldn't help but notice that gas is 50 cents less a gallon than it was not too long ago. And this being the middle of summer, when gas prices historically are upped to gouge the vacationers, I became confused. Gas was high (according to certain people who post on this illustrious forum) because Obama is a socialist, commie moon-joo. So who do we have to thank now that it has come back down? Uncle Newt? Mitt-wit and his Swiss-bank accounts? Did Sarah Palin go rogue on OPEC? Who exactly is responsible for this?

Amazing. You were all blaming socialist Obama while we in the UK had to blame Conservative Cameron.

I wonder if the petrol price could possibly have anything to do with the world price of oil?

Gas prices have tended to, more often than not, decrease, as a national average, in the June-August period, roughly 70% percent of the time over the last 20 years. If you consider that the trend will continue downward this year, that would make 15 of the last 21 years (71.5% of the time) that the price of gas, as a national average was less in August than it was in June.

As well, 12 out of the last 20 years (60%), gas prices, on average, have dropped from June-July making this phenomenon more of a simple historical likelihood, statistically speaking. The President and the congress etc... have very little to do with gas prices, and the cost of gas is more effected by summertime motorists, crude prices, international demand, oil speculation, and gas companies gearing up for winter mixtures that use less costly additives.

And, just as a general rule, gas prices usually drop around this time in Presidential election years anyway. '92, '96, '00, '04 and '08 all saw Jun-Aug drops in retail gasoline prices nationally, and, over the last 5 Presidential elections, gas prices have dropped, on average, $0.35/gallon in the Jun-Aug range. Its just an inevitability.

This is not a partisan thing. Its just a seasonal happening, and a fact of Presidential election years, regardless of party.

News flash - the economy is making a slow recovery. Getting out of wars in the Middle East was a good idea, too. Improving foreign policy since the previous administration is nice. Seeing success from the stimulus package isn't bad. This list could go on.

But clearly, anybody but Obama would be better.

Blame every politician, including PAST AND FUTURE PRESIDENTS, and blame the economy. Everything else is going up except for working classes' paychecks. Let's see... in MI, gas went down to 3.30ish then amazingly jumped up 20 cents in one day. Seriously!!!!

it hasn't " come back down".......it dropped about 25 cents/gallon.........now its heading back up.
And c'mon all you liberals out there.......which is it, does war make oil prices go up or are republicans going to war to steal the oil?
pick one and stick with it already.

Neither. The president has no control over gas prices. Don't blame him when they go up and dont give him credit when it comes down.

How's about Republicans going to war to steal the oil....and sucking major donkey balls in the attempt and always failing in their goals. Reagan (who I still revere) did as much harm as good, focusing on hardware instead of people and blowing I-don't-wanna-know-how-much on SDI. Bush Sr. was hopeless and gutless at the same time (I was there). And I don't need to go on about Jr. His record is the all-time Kahuna of incompetence and possibly treason. America needs to come to grips with the fact that the GOP is NOT the military's best friend and really never was.

And in my city, gas dropped 50 cents, and it's staying there, for the moment.

um ....... the media did.. During the last administration, implicating the previous presidents ties to oil companies. With a little media bullshit and conjecture = president is responsible. This president is also responsible.
