PC issue (looking for help)

i have a Dell 4600
i have my ipod & itunes on this computer.
when i transfer music from my cd's to the ipod some of the cd's took really long to make the transfer and some would not even be recognized by my pc (the light would just blink like 20 times then just stop)
the cd's that actually took a while to transfer i picked a few songs of them and they have just cut out randomly during the song.
(the cds that took long one was OU812-van halen
the ones that didnt even work was Fozzy-the first release,the debut release of Tantric & OU812 didnt work but i just kept opening and closing the tray and it finally worked)
now tonight i wanted to transfer the movie JUMPER that i have on dvd (and was about to trash) when i saw you can transfer it to Ipod or iphone.
i put the movie in as the instructions say but the green light just blinks again like 20 times THEN nothing?!!
it doesnt even spin in the unit. i just wanted to check out having a movie on my ipod but it wont work.

ANY suggestions as to the problem?
i have transfered 1700+ songs from my cd's so about 99.90% of them worked except the ones i listed and now this movie just doesnt play.
its not the itunes,ipod im guessing either the CD reader wont work correctly (clean the lens?) or it just wont work because of some coding or something?
i am lost i tried doing a search but mostly everything was about CD/r not playing but my cds are the actual true release.

Put your movie in and let it do it's thing, then go to My Computer and check the drive itself on the tree of available devices. See if it recognizes you have a disc in there. If it doesn't, it might be time for a new drive. I had something of this nature happen earlier this year, and all I had to do was install a new dvd rom drive.
