trailor looks good....tho im still not convinced...

i hate all the bullshit with the matrix...all this 'hidden depth' and 'philosphy' is just a pile to make action film fans sound clever

<- Check out my new Neo avatar from that second link. :D

I already bought tickets for opening day, and I can't wait! Comparing the Matrix trilogy to 2 other trilogies that I've seen two thirds of - Lord of the Rings and the Star Wars prequels - I'd say the Matrix movies are easily my favorite. Of course, that doesn't mean I like the Matrix more than the original Star Wars trilogy. ;)

Still, I'll admit that The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded are both flawed, occasionally pretentious, and have some cheesy dialogue. It's just that there's enough interesting material in there for me to overlook the things I don't like. Sort of how I enjoy Empire Strikes Back despite the incestuous Luke / Leia kiss.

Another thing I'll agree with the Matrix-haters on is this: There are some fans of the movies who are REALLY obnoxious, with that "If you don't like the movie as much as me, it's because you didn't understand it, so you're stupid" attitude. That seems to happen a lot with online movie arguments, but I noticed it was especially common whenever I'd read a Matrix Reloaded discussion thread over the summer.

Has anyone seen Revolutions? If so, what's the verdict?

I've read many reviews, most of them negative. worse yet, it sounds like the movie succeeds where Reloaded did (action, special effects), and failed where Reloaded did (story, dialogue, character, acting). I read one review where the chap said the dialogue was so bad you'd think it was written by George Lucas! Hilarious comment, but reading that made my skin crwal. :(

I've seen it, and I'll offer a quick spoiler-free critique.

Like its five.....er, I mean, TWO "predecessors," Revolutions is flawed. There's some bad dialogue, and one example of this is during a scene that's played for emotion, but contains an unintentionally hilarious line. The audience at the showing I saw actually started laughing, and that was clearly NOT what the filmmakers had wanted. Oops! :o

I also felt that certain issues that arose in Reloaded were not adequately clarified by this one. There was just so much I wanted this final installment to say and do, that maybe it was too much for one movie. On the other hand, some of the action parts kinda dragged, so maybe that time could better have been spent explaining what I wanted to know....

The ending is leaving a lot of people cold, but I'm not sure what I would have done differently if I were making the movie. Some people feel the end is unsatisfying, and there's debate about whether or not it leaves the door open for another Matrix movie. But speaking of that, I think it might not be such a bad idea to make a prequel trilogy - in which case, Revolutions really *would* have 5 predecessors! :D

The bottom line is, as Morpheus told Neo in the original movie, "You have to see it for yourself." You might love it or hate it, but you can't be sure until you watch it.

PS: Trinity is Neo's sister. (Kidding!)

Interesting review. I'm a fan of the 1st movie, not a huge fan though, so it's good to hear from someone who is, especially w/regards to whether or not it answered the questions left over from the first 2 movies. I thought many scenes of Reloaded seemed pointless, but I've left my mind open about them, hoping Revolutions will clear things up. From what I've heard so far, not much happens to fill in those gaps, but I'll wait until I see the movie before I decide on that.

Your joke about Trinity being Neo's sister had me thinking: I know lots of people who looked/are looking forward to the Matrix and LOTR movies, but I can't think of one person I know that knows (or even cares) when Star Wars Episode III comes out...... Interesting, Indeed.

I've re-watched Reloaded since seeing Revolutions, and I maintain that plenty of things from the second movie were NOT answered by the third. :(

And speaking of harsh critic comments (the George-Lucas-penned dialogue), if you go to rottentomatoes.com you'll see a bunch of them. Another one I've heard from Leonard Maltin on his TV show (Hot Ticket) went something like: "The most eye-popping special effect in this movie is what they did with Monica Bellucci's breasts!" Although, I must admit, they DID look amazing.

It's hard for me to pick which one of the 3 is my favorite. Sometimes I lean toward Reloaded, but after seeing Revolutions, the second movie doesn't hold up as well (with the unanswered questions I mentioned, and all).

One thing I don't agree with is the school of thought that the original Matrix movie was brilliant, but that both sequels are worthless compared to it. In other words, the idea that "the first Matrix movie was quite naturally perfect. It was a work of art: flawless, sublime......a triumph equalled only by its sequels' monumental failure."

:o Sorry, I looooooove quoting the Architect!
