I am an avid movie lover and collector, of ALL genres. My DVD collection alone is now approaching 1,600. I had a VHS collection that I have slowly been replacing with DVD as the movies have been released. My VHS collection at one point was over 2,000, but the only thing I will get on VHS now are TV specials, like the AFI shows, since I don't have a DVD recorder...yet.

And yes, I do have a few of those "special" movies on DVD, but unfortunately, the stars I want to see on DVD are either too expensive or aren't out there yet.

I didn't know they had dvd recorders that you could record off tv with, how much are they?

DVD all the way baby. DVD writers cost around 600 to 700 bucks right now, so don't run out and buy one yet. Not only are they way to much cash but they can't decided on the blue or red lazer and who knows which will become the standard.

DVDs definitely. I'll get a DVD burner in six months or so, when the price falls.

I would tell everyone not to buy one yet until 2006 because that is when all broadcasts will be in Hi-Def format and will look so much better. Right now, only a few are using the Hi-Def and the rest are still analog, so it would be like trying to record an old VHS movie to DVD.

Both, because sometimes I can get hold of movies I cant justify spending £15 on for about £5 on VHS.

But I would like to see Gauge's "My Plaything" DVD - :rubbel: - but I am too cheap and also a little worried about the legality of owning/buying/importing such a delectable item.

This is an old thread but a good topic. The only time I get VHS is when there is no DVD version available. That applies to porno, regular movies,- everything. If I can help it I avoid VHS. The problem is space. When you have over 1000 in a coolection it makes a difference when the space 3 dvd boxes take up are equal to one VHS tape.

DVD if possible. I have too much bad luck with VHS.
